Dr. Yongqiang Kang

Postdoctoral Researcher @ MPI für Kohlenforschung, Heterogeneous Catalysis Department

Yongqiang Kang received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2022. He subsequently worked as a Senior Battery Engineer at BYD before joining the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials as a postdoctoral researcher, where his research focused on advanced electron microscopy and atom-probe tomography for energy and catalytic materials. Since May 2026, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute für Kohlenforschung, working within the SusMax Li-REBORN project on mechanochemical strategies for lithium-ion battery recycling.
His research focuses on advanced characterization and mechanistic understanding of energy and catalytic materials, including lithium-ion battery recycling, mechanochemistry, electron microscopy, atom-probe tomography, in situ/operando characterization, and synchrotron-based X-ray scattering techniques.
