Our primary objective is to transition from finite, environmentally harmful material consumption to a sustainable, circular materials economy.
To achieve this, we adopt a holistic approach, focusing on research areas that are difficult to address within individual Max Planck Institutes and where interdisciplinary collaboration offers significant added value:
- Sensing-based programmable behavior
- Recyclability and sustainability of material systems
- Controlled disintegration and disassembly
SusMax is funded initially for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension for another 3 years.
SusMax will develop materials with embedded “recyclability genes,” enabling functionality across multiple life cycles, while addressing societal and ecological imperatives.
