Dr. Mattis-Ole Schmotz

Postdoctoral Researcher @ MPI for Chemical Energy Conversion

Dr. Mattis-Ole W. S. Schmotz studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg where he received his B.Sc. degree in 2020. He was then awarded the Fast Track scholarship of the Hamburg Research Academy, which enabled him to conduct his M.Sc. studies while simultaneously starting his Ph.D. studies. He completed them respectively in 2022 and 2025 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Axel Jacobi von Wangelin (University of Hamburg, Germany), where he studied photochemical and photoredox-catalyzed functionalization of organic molecules with free C1-radicals. In 2026, he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Siegfried R. Waldvogel at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany) as a postdoctoral researcher, where he is currently engaged with research on electrosynthesis and non-redox-neutral electroorganic transformations.
