Group Leader Atom Probe Tomography @ MPI for Sustainable Materials, Department of Microstructure Physics and Alloy Design

Tim M. Schwarz is a materials scientist specializing in atom probe tomography (APT) and the development of workflows for cryogenic sample preparation. He leads the “Interfacial processes/reactions at the atomic scale” group at the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials (MPI-SusMat). His research focuses on investigating interfacial reactions at the liquid-solid interface to understand degradation mechanisms using in-situ characterization techniques at the atomic level. In addition, his interests include studying biominerals and biomaterials to understand the underlying biomineralization mechanisms and designing alloys for biodegradable implants. He has received several national and international awards and fundings, most recently the Otto-Hahn Award from the MPG Society.
